UMSRS 2026 Call for Abstracts

Greetings PRRSUM community,

The deadline has passed for submission of an oral presentation, but we are still accepting Poster Abstracts for UMSRS 2026 in La Crosse, WI! Topics of interest for our technical committee include (but are not limited to!):

  • Emerging technologies and restoration strategies - Did you design a new structure? Employ drone imagery or 2D modeling in a new way? Develop a new partnership? Come tell us about it!
  • Sediment transport and geomorphology - From the theoretical calculations to the practicality of measurements, all research and fieldwork is welcome.
  • Stream connectivity- connection matters! Whether your work focuses on lateral connections to floodplains or restoring vertical connectivity via barrier removal, tell us about the links you (re)made.
  • Long-term monitoring results or restoration evaluations. What’s working in our field? What isn’t? Share what you’re seeing! We are particularly interested in hearing updates from past presenters (5+ years) on how projects they have presented on in the past are faring now.
  • Stream mitigation - from site selection to credit release we are interested in all aspects of this topic, from practitioners, bankers, and regulators.
  • Recreational uses of restored rivers – many restoration projects are focused on fishing, but people and communities use rivers in many ways. Tell us about a project that goes beyond in-stream habitat restoration!
  • Fisheries research involving the biology and ecology of lotic fishes, both game and non-game species.
  • Vegetation and invasive species management. What's growing on your projects? What's growing that shouldn't be and how do you get rid of it?
  • Hydrology of rivers in the Anthropocene – how is climate change and human-driven development affecting river flow?
  • Policy changes which affect rivers – if you work for the local, state, or federal government and your river regulations are changing, come explain how (and even better, why!)
  • Water Quality. Everyone wants clean water. What ways are we/can we/should we be supporting good water quality?

The deadline for submitting a poster session is January 10, 2026. Thank you and we hope to see you in La Crosse in February!

Cheers!
