Why Attend?
The Upper Midwest Stream Restoration Symposium (UMSRS) presents a unique opportunity to bring together regional stream restoration practitioners so they may share experiences and expertise with colleagues working within similar environmental and land-use conditions. Attendees from multi-disciplinary backgrounds will hear about innovative restoration designs and approaches as well as have the opportunity to network with the region’s leading stream restoration practitioners.
UMSRS looks to provide a collaborative environment which will allow an interdisciplinary approach to stream restoration and other related watershed sciences, hence a broad range of speakers and topics are actively encouraged. We seek session proposals and abstracts for both oral and poster presentations that address any topic areas related to stream restoration, including design and related analyses, alternatives analysis, implementation, and monitoring, as well as the planning, regulatory, and funding context under which stream restoration occurs. Selected presentations will be grouped into topical sessions.
Location
The Symposium we will be held in La Crosse, Wisconsin at the Radisson Hotel on the Riverfront. The venue will allow easy access from across the Midwest via air or car. Organizers have worked hard to keep registration costs as low as possible.
UMSRS at a Glance
UMSRS will take place over 2.5 days. The Symposium will open on Sunday night with dinner and a keynote talk. The Symposium is single-track (no concurrent sessions) so that all attendees hear all presentation and discussions. Keynote speakers will open each day followed by oral and poster presentations.
Pre-symposium short courses will also be offered concurrently prior to the kickoff dinner on February 23th, 2014. More information on the short courses will be coming soon!
Session Topics
PRRSUM members and the broader river restoration community are invited to propose session topics for the 2013 Symposium. Sessions typically have three or four speakers and the session convener can encourage selected presenters to submit abstracts, or presentations can be assigned to a session based on abstracts received. The proposer of an accepted session will work with a PRRSUM technical committee member to organize and moderate the session. The deadline for session proposals is August 30th, 2013.

Oral and Poster Presentations
UMSRS will have invited speakers and oral presentations delivered in topical sessions. Oral presentations are 20 minutes in length and are given in a plenary format to an interdisciplinary audience of approximately 150 attendees. Hence, the content should be interesting to a diverse audience and clearly focused to deliver two or three key points. The deadline for oral presentation proposals is October 18th, 2013.
The poster session for 2013 will be delivered during an hour-long session in the main body of the symposium. Poster presenters are expected to attend their posters to answer any questions from the attendees. Adequate space is provided for displaying and viewing the posters. Only posters that are reviewed through the abstract review process will be displayed at the conference, although some session conveners may request that an oral presentation abstract be made a poster if their oral session is full. Posters will continue to be accepted until registration closes on January 24th, 2014.
